Rosary

Pope John Paul II has enriched the rosary with the addition of five new mysteries, the mysteries of light or the Luminous Mysteries, which follow the Joyful Mysteries and precede the Sorrowful. Here is the new schema with the suggested days to pray the mysteries.

Joyful Mysteries (Monday and Saturday)

  1. The Annunciation;
  2. The Visitation;
  3. The Nativity;
  4. The Presentation;
  5. The Finding in the Temple.

Luminous Mysteries (Thursday)

  1. The Baptism of the Lord (Matthew 3:13-17);
  2. Jesus’ Self-Revelation at the Wedding of Cana (John 2:1-12);
  3. Jesus’ Proclamation of the Kingdom of God with His call to conversion (Mark 1:14-15; Mark 2:3-13; Luke 7:36-50; John 20:22-23);
  4. The Transfiguration (Luke 9:28-36);
  5. The Institution of the Holy Eucharist (Matthew 26:26-30)

Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesday and Friday)

  1. The Agony in the Garden;
  2. The Scourging;
  3. The Crowning with thorns;
  4. Jesus carries His cross;
  5. The Lord’s Crucifixion and Death.

Glorious Mysteries (Wednesday and Sunday)

  1. The Lord’s Resurrection;
  2. His Ascension;
  3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost;
  4. Mary’s Assumption;
  5. Coronation of Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth.
