Deacon Tom Lindsey
Deacon Tom Lindsey was born July 12, 1947, in Cotton Valley, LA. He graduated from Bradley (Ark.) High School in 1965. Deacon Tom spent 21 years in the United States Air Force, where he received his Associate Degree in Allied Health. He moved to Opelousas after his retirement from the Air Force in 1987. He is a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Opelousas General Health System.
Deacon Tom and his wife, Patty, the former Patty Jaremko, were married at her home parish, Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Dallas Texas on December 30, 1967. He was Baptized, received his first Reconciliation and first Holy Communion on November 23, 1968, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas, when he was 21 years old. He and his wife, Patty have three children, Mary, Molly and Danny, and four grandchildren (Juliet Arledge, Lindsey, Tyler & Wesley Thibodeaux).
Deacon Tom was ordained as a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Lafayette at Saint John the Evangelist Cathedral by Bishop Edward O'Donnell on February 26, 2000. He ministers to the sick through his duties at the hospital; to the home bound by visiting and bringing communion to the shut-ins; to the whole parish through membership in the Knights of Columbus; involvement in the Parish Council; and his service at Mass, reading the gospel, and giving the homily, and in administering the Sacraments of the Church by officiating at Baptisms, weddings, funerals, and wake services. Deacon Tom also is the Pastoral Care Coordinator at Opelousas General Hospital where his duties include taking care of the chapel, visiting all the patients who are Catholic and finding a priest in time of an emergency.
His wife, Patty, is the Parish Secretary/Archivist/Bulletin Editor at Our Lady of Mercy Church. She also serves the parish by being a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Mass and in her membership in the Rosary Altar Society. She also takes care of the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors Mass schedules. They are both active in the Diaconatae Formation as Assistant Formation Directors, Marriage Encounter and the Engaged Conferences for the Diocese of Lafayette.
