Deacon Ulysse Joubert

Deacon Ulysse Joubert was born on June 11, 1947 in Opelousas, LA. He graduated from Opleousas High School in 1965 and from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1969 with a B.A. Degree in Social Studies/Political Science Education. Later he earned a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from LSU. He is presently the principal at Park Vista Elementary and is in his 41st year as an educator/administrator in the St. Landry Public School System. Deacon Ulysse was ordained as a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Lafayette at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral by Bishop Edward O'Donnell on February 26, 2000. Some of Deacon Joubert's duties include assisting at Mass, reading the gospel, and giving the homily. He also teaches the confirmation class, RCIA, instructs a weekly Bible Class, brings communion to the homebound, officiates at baptisms, weddings, funerals, and leads a weekly communion service at Evergreen Village, Opelousas.
Deacon Ulysse and his wife, Glenda, have been married since 1968. They have four children (Jean-Paul, Andree, Angelique, and Jacques) and four grandchildren. Glenda is a retired first grade teacher from St. Landry Parish. She is the Coordinator of Religious Education and Safe Environment. She is also a lector and substitute Eucharistic Minister. Their youngest son Jacques is a lector. Their grandchildren, (Conner, Jean-Paul Jr., Hannah) are altar servers.
