Deacon Tom
was born July 12, 1947 in Cotton Valley, LA. He graduated
from Bradley (Ark.) High in 1965. Deacon Tom spent
21 years in the United States Air Force, where he received
his Associate Degree in Allied Health. He moved to
Opelousas after his retirement in 1987. He
is a Nuclear Medicine technologist at Opelousas General
Hospital.
Deacon Tom and his wife, Patty, were married at her home parish, Mary Immaculate
Catholic Church, Dallas, Texas on December 30, 1967. He was Baptized,
received his first Reconciliation and first Communion on November 23, 1968
at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. when he was 21 years
old. He and his wife Patty have three children, Mary, Molly and
Danny, one grandchild and one on the way (so far) .
Deacon Tom
was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate, Diocese of Lafayette,
at Saint John the Evangelist Cathedral by Bishop O’Donnell
on February 26, 2000. He ministers to the sick through
his duties at the hospital; to the home bound by visiting
and bring communion; to the whole parish through membership
in the Knights of Columbus; involvement in the Parish Council;
and his service at Mass and in administering the Sacraments
of the Church by officiating at Baptisms and weddings.
Patty is a
homemaker and serves the Parish by being a Eucharistic
Minister and a Lector at daily Masses, in her membership
in the Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Daughters Association. She
is also takes care of the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers
and Lectors schedule. They are both active
in Marriage Encounter and the Engaged Conferences for the
Diocese.
